Langkawi Map

Langkawi is a mystical island of jungle-covered mountains, lakes, caves and waterfalls, swathed in legends of romance and mystery.

In Langkawi, almost every place has an intriguing story.

Telaga Tujuh, translated as "The Seven Wells", is a naural series of seven deep freshwater pools and cascading waterfalls, and is thought to be a favourite playground for fairies.

If you take a boat ride to Pulau Dayang Bunting, there is a lake called Tasik Dayang Bunting or " Lake of the Pregnant Maiden". It is believed there was once a beautiful court maiden named Telani who became pregnant by the king's son. Thisindiscretion angered the ancient god Sang Kelembai who brought a drought upon the land and turned the baby into a white crocodile. Telani was transformed into a rock and the king's son into an island. Till today, people have spotted a white crocodile swimming between the two.

The powdery white shores of Langkawi also symbolise the innocence of a Malay princess, Mahsuri. Wrongly accused of adultery, she was stabbed, and a tomb erected on the spot where she died. The tomb, the Makam Mahsuri, is carved out of white Langkawi marble.

Other interesting attractions in Langkawi include the hot spring, Telaga Air Hangat; the Gua Cerita, a cave with ancient Koranic versus carved on the walls: and the black sandy beach of Pantai Pasir Hitam.
